Obiettivi formativi

The students will acquire a broad view of a few key mechanims underlying communication and publication in the research ecosystem. They will also develop some soft skills of relevance for their future work as students or as professionals in research in industry or academia.

Programma del corso

1. How the research world works in practice (1.5 CFU)
1.a. Communication in the scientific process
-Scientific journals: the system and the process
-Scientific conferences / schools
-… and more
1.b. Communication and engaging a broader public

2. Developing ‘soft skills’: (1.5 CFU)
2.a. writing –and especially building— a good CV
2.b. giving a scientific talk, communicating at scientific meetings
2.c. writing a scientific paper (article for publication / technical report)
2.d. communicating to the general public
2.e. producing and using images
2.f. writing a research project (upon students' request)

Metodi didattici

Lectures and discussion sessions in presence
(Participation via teleconference is allowed in special cases upon motivated request: the sessions will be made available synchronously.)

Slides and other materials are made available during the course on moodle.unimore.it.

Verifica dell'apprendimento

Oral exam based on a presentation by the student on one of the topics discussed in the course. Exams will be held in presence. (They can take place on-line only in very special cases for which permission must be requested and obtained in advance.)

Risultati attesi

Improved ability to give scientific talks/posters, develop and write a good CV, communicate to a broad audience.
